The inspiration for this piece struck during my morning runs under the Jacaranda tree canopies in Parque Metropolitano de Guadalajara, where countless delicate blossoms—typically just 1-2 inches in nature—would carpet the ground after spring showers. By dramatically enlarging a single blossom to fill this substantial 24-inch square canvas, I invite you into an intimate communion with details that remain hidden to the casual observer, transforming the ephemeral into the eternal.
Each petal unfolds with meticulous brushwork that creates dimensional presence through careful color transitions—from deep royal purple to delicate lavender highlights that capture the blossom’s subtle complexity. The golden pistils shimmer with hand-applied mica that catches light with the brilliance of morning sunlight illuminating freshly fallen rain, creating a focal point that draws the eye into contemplation of both botanical form and emotional resonance.
The rich dioxazine purple background appears darker than black yet maintains a subtle purple essence that resonates with the blossom itself, creating a dramatic floating effect that suspends the flower in a timeless dimension. This profound backdrop allows the vibrant purple tones to emerge with extraordinary presence, as though illuminated from within by their own luminosity.
What elevates this piece beyond ordinary floral portraiture is the selenite crystal infusion that creates subtle light reflections across the petal surfaces—evoking the ephemeral beauty of morning dew or gentle rainfall that once adorned these blossoms in their natural habitat. These crystalline elements connect the artwork to the transformative properties of selenite, which naturally absorbs electromagnetic frequencies while releasing beneficial negative ions that promote clarity and calm in your space.
Multiple layers of epoxy create a dimensional quality that enhances both the visual depth and the tactile presence of the blossom, preserving its vibrant presence while adding a translucent dimension that shifts with changing light conditions. As you move around the piece, highlights dance across the lustrous surface, bringing the memory of those rain-kissed Mexican mornings into your present moment.
Jacaranda Blossom 2 stands as more than a botanical study—it is a portal to landscapes of memory and renewal, connecting my personal journey beneath Mexico’s violet canopies with your own relationship to beauty and transformation. Like the Jacaranda tree itself, which bursts into magnificent blossom after dormant periods, this artwork reminds us of nature’s cycles of rebirth and the profound beauty that emerges from life’s transitional moments.
