Wing at Rest

18″ × 48″ × 18″, Selenite Crystal (Jalisco Gypsum), Weight: 120 lbs (54,500 grams), March 12, 2021.

How intriguing is it that my intuitive sculpting of this rare piece of earthen-rich Gypsum Crystal takes the form of a glorious wing. Perhaps it is the wing of an angel? It has been mentioned throughout the ages that angels, beings of great voluminous light, bear wings at their back. It is curious that an energetic light force needs wings at all, however it does conjure up wonderful sentiments within us doesn’t it?
The symbol of the wing – stretching out, taking flight, enabling higher perspectives, defining physics at play, and offering a sense of tender protection. This wing is at rest. It is allowing you to connect and feel its strength; admire its beauty. It is before you to lift you up and gain a higher vantage point.
Hand-selected during my personal pilgrimage to the Jalisco mines, this specific crystal called to me through its exceptional internal structure and luminous quality. What makes this piece truly extraordinary is the rare presence of Triassic period sandstone veins that create dramatic earthy contrasts against the crystalline translucency, while naturally occurring rainbow prisms create mesmerizing light interactions that continuously transform as you move around the piece.
Beyond its visual magnificence, this substantial selenite sculpture naturally alleviates anxiety, promotes mental clarity, and creates an atmosphere of tranquility in your space—its molecular structure resonating with harmonic frequencies that influence the energetic quality of its surroundings.
The custom contemporary aluminum base, featuring a steel-reinforced core, appears to defy gravity as it cradles the substantial crystal wing securely. The minimalist matte black finish provides elegant contrast to the luminous crystalline form, creating the illusion that this magnificent wing is suspended in mid-flight, captured in a moment of perfect repose.
Wing at Rest represents my decade-long relationship with these extraordinary minerals, where I serve as temporary guardian until each piece finds its permanent home with an appreciative keeper who will benefit from both its therapeutic qualities and timeless beauty.
